The area of Iruppu or Irpu Falls is associated with a legend. Lord Ram and Lakshmana reached this place while searching for Sita. They were thirsty. In order to quench their thirst, Lakshmana shot an arrow into the Brahmagiri Mountain which gave birth to the river. Later, Lord Ram dedicated the place to Lord Shiva and that is how the temple came into existence.
