Indian XV Corps

The Indian XV Corps was an army formation of the British Indian Army during the Second World War. It was formed in the year 1942 under the administration of the British Empire in India. The formation remained in service till the year 1946. It was raised on 30 March 1942 from Headquarters Assam and Bengal Presidency District HQ. It was developed to provide defence to Bengal Presidency under the command of Eastern Army.

The troops of the Indian XV Corps were sent to Burma and fought in the Burma Campaign in the South East Asian Theatre of World War II. After the end of the war, the Indian XV Corps was dissolved. Some of the most noted commanders are Philip Christison, Noel Beresford Peirse and William Slim.

However, after the Indian independence and the Partition of India, the Indian XV Corps was reformed under the modern Indian Army in the year 1955. The troops participated in all of the Indo Pakistan wars. It is presently headquartered at Srinagar.
