Starting with the direction of television shows, Imtiaz Ali has gradually succeeded in garnering critical appreciations for his works.

Early Life of Imtiaz Ali
Imtiaz Ali was born on 16th June 1971 in Darbhanga, Bihar, to a Muslim family. He grew up in Patna as well as Jamshedpur in Jharkhand. His father Mansoor Ali was involved in an irrigation job and during childhood Imtiaz often accompanied him in his tours which rendered him glimpses of the interiors of India. He did his schooling from St. Michael`s High School, Patna and D.B.M.S. English School, Jamshedpur. Although initially he did not pay much attention to studies, later he excelled in it along with sports and also began participating in theatres. After completing school he joined Hindu Hindu College in Delhi where he indulged in college theatre. He also started the dramatics society of College called Ibtida. Afterwards he shifted to Mumbai and did a diploma course on marketing and advertising from Xavier Institute of Communication.

Career of Imtiaz Ali
Imtiaz Ali stepped into the entertainment world by directing TV programs including Imtehaan for Star Plus and Kurukshetra for Zee TV. He continued this for about 7 years after which he gradually made his way to Bollywood film direction. The year 2005 marked his directional debut with the movie Socha Na Tha featuring Abhay Deol and Ayesha Takia. Although the film failed at the box office, it managed to get critical acclamations. In the year 2007 he did a cameo role in Anurag Kashyap`s Black Friday. His next venture was Jab We Met starring Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. The film was a runaway hit and became his first box office success gaining overwhelming response critically as well as commercially. It rendered overnight fame and recognition to the director. His next film was Love Aaj Kal which featured Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone and marked the biggest commercial success of Imtiaz Ali till date. His next film Highway released in 2014 which further enhanced his presentation skills as a director. Imtiaz also owns a production company named Window Seat Films and Highway was the first film under this banner featuring Randeep Hooda and Alia Bhatt. He has also worked as an editor for the films Socha Na Tha and Love Aaj Kal. He has also worked as a writer for the movies Ahista Ahista, Jab We Met, Cocktail, Love Aaj Kal and a few more.

Achievements of Imtiaz Ali
Imtiaz Ali has won several accolades for his works. In the year 2008 he won Filmfare Award for Best Dialogue and IIFA Award for Best Dialogue for the film Jab We Met. For the same film he has also received Apsara Film Producers Guild Award and Screen Weekly Awards for Best Story. In the year 2012 he won Zee Cine Award for Best Director for the film Rockstar.

Imtiaz Ali was married to Preety Ali. However the couple got separated in the year 2012.
