Harihara II was a ruler of the Sangama Dynasty who ruled the Vijayanagar Empire. His regime continued from 1377 to 1404 CE. The famous Kannada poet, Madhura was patronised by this ruler. A significant work on Vedas was accomplished during the rule of this emperor, who had been granted the titles of `Vedamarga Pravartak` and `Vaidikamarga Sthapanachary`.
The kingdom of Harihara II was extended by conflicts against the Reddis of Kondavidu, which were fought for gaining control over the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh which was existent between the areas of Kalinga and Nellore. The kingdoms of Addanki and Srisailam were conquered by Harihara II, from the Reddis of Kondavidu. Besides this portion, a major part of the empire which spread to the southern part of Krishna River was also attacked by Harihara II. This sparked some battles in Telangana with the Velama rulers of Rachakonda. Harihara II conquered the north-western parts of the empire of Mujahid Bahmani in the year 1378, following the latter`s death. Thereafter, the ports of Dabhol, Goa and Chaul were brought under his supervision.
Harihara II mainly ruled the region of Vijayanagara, which is referred to as Hampi. The ruins of the palace of Harihara II can be found amongst the ruins located at Hampi.
