Generally located at the subtropical and tropical latitudes, the flooded grasslands and savannas in India are biotic community. The savannas are usually located at such places, which are flooded seasonally or year-round. These grasslands and savannas are characterised by their very wet water, warm temperature and nutrient rich soil. The flooded grasslands and savannas in India are mainly found in the Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. The place lies on the western top of Gujarat and it has endless desert area on one side and the sea on the other side.
The flooded grasslands and savannas in India are home to a rich variety of flora and fauna species. The grasslands represent the saline wasteland where the grasslands and scrub flora intersperse with the swampy land and offer a refuge to the exotic wildlife. The grasslands harbour large population of wild Asiatic Ass that is the member of the wild horse family. Apart from that, the other notable animal species found in the flooded grasslands and savannas in India include the Desert Cat, Black Buck, Hyena Wolf, Gazelle, Blue Bull, Chinkaras, Wild Boar, Falcons, Nilgai, Striped Hyena, Caracal, Ghudkhur, etc.
The flooded grasslands and savannas in India are also home to innumerous species of birds and hence attract a large number of visitors, every year. The birds like White Eared Bulbul, Shrikes, Indian Courser, Great Indian Bustard, Lesser Flamingo, Sarus Crane and Stone Plover are amongst the most important bird species in the grasslands. Apart from these, some of the other important species of birds found in the flooded grasslands and savannas include the Ibis, Spoonbill, Common Cranes, Pelican, etc. The grasslands and savannas are also home to several tribal communities. There is a heterogeneous population of 18 different tribes in the grasslands, and each of them has their own distinguished culture and traditions.
