The Garba festival: The Garba festival is one of the most significant festivals in Daman and Diu. This festival stretches for nine days at a stretch when the people celebrate by dancing in bright and colourful dresses and accessories. Through the Garba Festival, the Goddess Amba is worshipped, through various songs and devotional dances. Traditional rites and customs are followed while paying tribute to Goddess Amba. People belonging to different religions and social backgrounds assemble together to celebrate this festival which is observed during October or November.
Nariyal Purnima: It is one of the most significant festivals celebrated in Daman and Diu. It is organised by the West Zone Cultural Centre and is celebrated by the end of monsoon and the beginning of fishing seasons. The fisher folk flock to the sea shore to offer coconuts to the God of water and wind to seek blessings during this festival.
Gangaji Fair: Gangaji Fair is a yearly occasion in Daman and Diu. Gangaji is the festival of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva holds a distinguished place in Hindu mythology. He is regarded as "the creator of the universe" and hence his worship is well-liked among all the Hindus. The fair makes people from diverse part of the state to meet near a tank where all the rituals take place. After taking a holy dip in the tank different customs and rituals make the festival colourful and attractive. To experience the rich Hindu customs, thousands of tourists gather to witness the impressive celebration.
Folk Dance Festival: Folk Dance Festival is one of the main festivals in Daman and Diu. Being a Portuguese colony, Daman and Diu come into wonderful customs where east and west meet to give a new form of tradition. There are various kinds of dances like Mando Dance, Verdigao and Vira dance which are the main attractions of folk dance event in Daman and Diu. This dance festival makes the environment lively and energetic. This dance festival is celebrated by both elder and younger generations. Traditional and the contemporary dance performances can be experienced in these festival days. The main aim of the festival is to eat drink and make happy.
