Darrang Mounted Rifles

The Darrang Mounted Rifles, also known as Durrung Mounted Rifles, was an erstwhile infantry regiment that operated under the Volunteer Corps of the British Indian Army. The auxiliary army unit was established in Darrang district in Assam. The Darrang Mounted Rifles unit was included as a part of the Bengal Army of Bengal Presidency as well as the Bengal Command. It was formed as the Darrang Mounted Infantry regiment by the British Empire in India on 3rd June 1887.

The military battalion was re-designated as the Darrang Mounted Rifles on 15th February 1889. The infantry regiment took part in a number battles and conquests under the British administration. The Darrang Mounted Rifles was merged with various other Volunteer Rifle Corps in order to raise the Assam Valley Mounted Rifles on 6th November 1891.
