Charles Alfred Elliott

Sir Charles Alfred Elliott was appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of the province of Bengal, which was one of the 3 major Presidencies in British India, including Bombay Presidency and Madras Presidency. He was also a well known colonial administrator under the rule of the British East India Company. Elliott held office as the Lieutenant Governor of Bengal from the year 1890 to 1893. Charles Alfred Elliott was preceded by Sir Steuart Colvin Bayley as the Lieutenant Governor of Bengal, who served in office from the year 1887 to 1890.

The Bengal Presidency originally comprised east and west Bengal and was a colonial region of the British Empire in India. The region included the territories of undivided Bengal like West Bengal, Tripura, Orissa, Meghalaya, Bihar, Assam and modern Bangladesh. Bengal Presidency incorporated the British territories that were situated towards the north of the Central Provinces (now Madhya Pradesh), from the openings of the river Brahmaputra and the Ganges River.

Sir Charles Alfred Elliott served in office till the year 1893 and was succeeded by Sir Anthony MacDonnell, who remained in the position from 1893 to 1895.
