This temple has been the backdrop of the famous novel "Rajarshi" and drama of "Bisharjan" by Rabindranath Tagore. It is named after the Goddess Bhuvaneshwari who is the fourth goddesses amongst the ten Mahavidya goddesses.

Bhuvaneswari Temple is situated on the bank of Gomati River at Udaipur in Tripura. It is located at a distance of 55 kilometres from Agartala.

History of Bhuvaneswari Temple
Bhuvaneswari Temple was built by Maharaj Govinda Manakya. It was constructed between the years of 1660 - 1675 A.D.

Bhuvaneswari Temple is a rare example of old temple architecture. The temple is constructed on a 3 feet high lined terrace. The roof features the typical four-chaala style with stupa like crowns on the doorway and interior chambers. The stupa on interior chamber is adorned with beautiful floral motifs.

The nearest airport of Bhuvaneswari Temple is situated at Agartala. The nearest rail head is Kumarghat of North Eastern Railway. It is 1475 kilometres from Kolkata via Guwahati and 140 kilometres from Agartala. From here people can pick a bus or taxi to reach the temple. National Highway 44 connects the state with a lot of north eastern states by road. Agartala, the capital of Tripura, is connected by regular bus services with all sub-divisional towns of Tripura. Besides, bus service is also accessible from Silchar, Guwahati, Karimganj and Shillong.
