Avalanche Peaks

Avalanche peaks are the two mountains situated above the Arwa Valley to the northwest of Badrinath.

Avalanche Peaks, UttarakhandThere are two mountains situated above the Arwa Valley to the northwest of Badrinath in the Uttarakhand state of India. These mountains are called the Avalanche Peaks. The peaks are so named because the early climbers who sought to cross the glaciers beneath them experienced avalanches.

Location of Avalanche Peak
Avalanche Peak is located on the north south massif between Kalindi Bamak and the Arwa bank. Among the two, this is the main peak which is situated south to the Avalanche Peak II. The mountain is situated at a height of 6196 metres above mean sea level.

The Avalanche Peak II is higher than Avalanche Peak I and is more inclined towards the north. It is located south of the Kalindi Khal which separates the Chaturangi glacier from the Arwa Valley. The summit is situated at an altitude of 6443 metres (21,139 feet) above mean sea level. The geographic coordinates of the peak are 30A54`36 North, 79A16`48 East.

The peaks are enveloped with snow and mist. They offer stunning view of the nature. The neighbouring peaks of the Avalanche Peaks are Chandra Parbat, Chaturangi and Kalinidi.
