Tasek Lake in East Garo Hills of Meghalaya is known for its natural beauty. It is believed that the lake was naturally formed during the massive earthquake which hit the North-East India in 1897. It is about 1.5km long and nearly 300 metres wide. The soothing ambience of Tasek Lake makes it an ideal spot for picnic, fishing and camping site for travellers. In winter, many migratory birds can be seen at the lake. The lake is home to a variety of fishes released by the fisheries department.
As per the locals near, legend has it that the Tasek Lake was inhabited by Sangkini, a huge water serpent.
Location of Tasek Lake
Tasek Lake, a large inland lake is located near Songsak of East Garo Hills, about 110km from Tura in West Garo Hills. It is close to the new national highway from Jengjal to Shillong. The lake is about 35 km from Williamnagar.
