![]() Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary Chandra Prabha Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the Naugarh and Vijaigarh hillocks in the Vindhya Forest Range in Chandauli, about 70 kilometers from the historic city of Varanasi. This wildlife sanctuary occupies an area of about 78 square kilometers and was established in May, 1957. With 150 species of birds, this sanctuary is an ideal site for bird lovers. Dry deciduous forest composed of gneiss and laminated stone comprise the flora of Chandra Prabha. Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the banks of Sarayu River in Bahraich district. It was established in the year 1975 and has an area of about 400.6 square kilometers. This sanctuary is a part of Project Tiger. A number of endangered species are protected in Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, sloth bear, antelope and deer comprise the main mammals of Suhelva. Mahavir Swami Wildlife Sanctuary Mahavir Swami Wildlife Sanctuary is located about 125 km from Jhansi. It occupies an area of about 5.4 square kilometers. This wildlife sanctuary serves as a home to a variety of birds and animals like leopard, nilgai, wild boar, sambhar, black buck, blue bull, bear, jackals, langur and monkeys. |
