Jyotiba Phule Nagar District of Uttar Pradesh has its administrative headquarters located at Amroha city. This district has been a part of Moradabad District in the past which was a part of `Sarkar of Sambhal` of Delhi Province during the Akbar regime. Jyotiba Phule Nagar District lies in the west of Moradabad District adjoining Meerut, Ghaziabad and Bulandshahar. The district came into being on 24th of April, 1997 in the memory of reformer Sant Mahatma Jyotiba Phule. Jyotiba Phule Nagar District was formed by combining Amroha, Dhanora and Hasanpur Tehsils of Moradabad district.

Total geographical area of Jyotiba Phule Nagar District is 2470 sq kms. This district is extending from latitude 28 degree 54 minutes north to 39 degree 6 minutes north and longitude 78 degree 28 minutes east to 78 degree 39 minutes east. The maximum and minimum heights from the sea level are 240 feet and 177 feet respectively. Jyotiba Phule Nagar District is bounded by district Bijnore in the north, tehsil Sambhal of Moradabad is in its south, tehsil Sadar of Moradabad is in the east. It is surrounded by Meerut District, Ghaziabad District and Bulandshahr District in the west. Ganga River separates this district from district Ghaziabad, Meerut and Bulandshahr. The climate of Jyotiba Phule Nagar District is similar to other districts of the state, which becomes hot in summer and dry and cold in winter. Ganga River, Baha River and Krishna River are the main rivers flowing through the district.

Administration of Jyotiba Phule Nagar District comprises 1133 villages, three Tehsils, six Development Blocks and 11 Police Stations. The six development blocks of the district are Amroha, Dhanaura, Hasanpur, Joya, Gajraula and Gangeshwari. District Magistrate or Collector is the administrator of this district. The most important work of the district magistrate is to maintain law and order, implementation of various government orders. Being a top administrator of the district he directly orders the police department whenever required. He is also responsible for maintaining peace and justice in the district. Further, Block Development Officer is the in charge of the block. He monitors the implementation of all the programmes related to planning and development of the blocks. Administration of Jyotiba Phule Nagar District also includes a Chief Development Officer, who is responsible for the co-ordination in the development work and for implementation of various schemes at various blocks of the district. To maintain the general administration of the district there is one additional district magistrate and three sub-divisional magistrates for the assistance of district magistrate.
According to general and revenue administration, Jyotiba Phule Nagar District is divided into three sub divisions Sadar (Amroha), Dhanaura, Hasanpur. The area of each subdivision includes the area of each tehsil. Every tehsil comes under Sub-Divisional Magistrate, and he acts as an assistant collector for revenue administration. Also there is one Tehsildar in each tehsil who is assisted by additional Tehsildar, Nayab Tehsildar (for each Pargana). His work mainly includes collection of all dues, maintenance of Land Records, and disposal of revenue cases and welfare of general public. For better administration tehsils are segmented in Parganas.
