‘Bigg Boss’ is a popular Indian television reality show broadcast on Colors TV channel in India.
Concept of Bigg Boss
‘Bigg Boss’ is based on the concept of the original Dutch reality TV series ‘Big Brother’, the format of which was developed by John de Mol Jr., the man behind production companies Endemol and Talpa. A number of contestants known as "housemates" live in a purpose-built house and are isolated from the rest of the world. Every week, the housemates nominate two of their peers for eviction. The two with most nominations face a public vote which decides the one who would eventually leave, having been "evicted" from the house. Exceptions to this process are there as dictated by Bigg Boss who is the mysterious person overseeing the contestants, his only presence being his voice. The housemates who remain till the final week get public voted to determine the winner. They are primarily celebrities with exception of one being a non-celebrity selected through auditions.
A well-furnished and decorated house with all modern amenities, one or two bedrooms and four toilet bathrooms is built for every season. There is a garden, pool, activity area and gym. There is also a Confession Room, where the housemates are called in by Bigg Boss for any conversation and nomination process. The House has no TV connection, telephones, Internet, clocks, pen or paper.
While the rules have never been told to the audience, the most prominent ones are clearly seen, such as the inmates are not permitted to talk in any other language than Hindi. They cannot leave the house premises at any time except when permitted to, nor discuss the nomination process with each other or sleep in day time. Sometimes, the housemates may be nominated for other reasons like nomination by a person who has achieved special privileges through tasks or otherwise, for breaking rules or something else. In the event of something very serious, a contestant may be evicted directly.
Seasons, Hosts and Winners of Bigg Boss
The main coverage of ‘Bigg Boss’ is in the form of daily highlight programs and weekly eviction on Fridays. Everyday's episodes contain main happenings of the previous day, while every Saturday episode mainly focuses on interview of the evicted contestant by the host. On Sundays, extra footages of the week get telecast.
