Suhelwa Tiger Reserve is existent in Gonda, Balrampur and Shravasti Districts of the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh and was proclaimed a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1988. The perfect time to visit this tiger reserve is the time between the months of October till February, which constitutes winter season. This Indian tiger reserve is based at a distance of nearly 67 kms away from Balrampur and about 42 kms away from Gonda District. The sanctuary is classified into western and eastern portion. The total area occupied by the tiger reserve measures about 452. 77 square kilometres and is linked to the Mahadevpuri Forest in Nepal. The core region of Suhelwa Tiger Reserve is composed of five parts of the Mahadevpuri Forest.
Bahera, Phaldu, Sal, Teak, Dhamina, Jamun, Shisham, Jigna, Haldu, Asna and Khair are some of the most common trees which survive in the Suhelwa Tiger Reserve. Tigers are amongst the most famous wildlife of this sanctuary, in the entire region of Uttar Pradesh. The other species of fauna existent here are Wild Cat, Leopard, Cheetah, Bear, Wild Boar, etc. Siberian Crane, Common Teal and Blue and Red Pochard are some of the several kinds of migratory birds which flock to the tiger reserve.
