![]() Early Life of Richa Sharma Richa Sharma was born on 29th August 1980 in Faridabad city of Haryana. She received her formal training in Indian classical and light music from Pandit Aaskaran Sharma. Gradually she extended her dexterity to Ghazals, Punjabi and Rajasthani folk songs and film songs, adapting her voice to a greater variety of songs and making her singing more versatile. Richa Sharma had also sacrificed her studies to follow her dreams of pursuing a career in the realm of music. Her passion for music thus took her to Mumbai in the year 1994.
![]() In the initial phase of her career, Richa Sharma used to perform the cover versions and bhajans for ensuring the earnings during her struggle in the Hindi film industry. In 1996, she got her first break in Bollywood with Sawan Kumar's ‘Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya’. Her debut song received much appreciations followed by a number of other Bollywood projects. However the turning point of her career came with the movie ‘Taal’ in which she sang for A. R. Rahman. Her song in the movie became a super hit raising her to fame. Subsequently she sang for a number of acclaimed music directors in a plethora of films including ‘Om Shanti Om’ (Vishal-Shekhar), ‘Saawariya’ (Monty Sharma), ‘Popcorn Khao Mast Ho Jao’ (Vishal-Shekhar), ‘Gangajal’ (Sandesh Shandilya), ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ (Shankar Ehsaan Loy), ‘Soch’ (Jatin Lalit), ‘Baghbaan’ (Aadesh Shrivastava), ‘Khakee’ (Ram Sampath), ‘Hera Pheri’ (Anu Malik), ‘Zubeidaa’, ‘Saathiya’ (A. R. Rahman) and many others which went on to become chartbusters. Her song 'Mahi Ve' from the movie Kaante became a huge hit earning her further popularity. Richa Sharma also has a few albums to her credit which have added to her versatility. Her grace and classiness in singing can be well observed in her albums like ‘Winds of Rajasthan’, ‘Piya’ and ‘Ni Main Yaar Nu Sajda Kardi’. In March 2011, Richa Sharma's first ‘Saibaba’ devotional album named ‘Sai Ki Tasveer’ was launched by SaReGaMa India during the inauguration of Saibaba Temple in Faridabad by the singer herself and her family. Richa Sharma has also appeared in television shows. She was a contestant of the NDTV Imagine singing reality show 'Dhoom Macha De'. She has co-hosted ‘Antakshari’ on Zee TV with Annu Kapoor. She has lent her voice for the title song of the show 'Sajda Tere Pyaar Mein' aired on STAR Plus. Apart from this, she has also appeared in a number of singing reality shows as a guest.
