Edayar Grameena Vayanasaya is situated in Edayar region of Ernakulam district in the Indian state Kerala. It is a Grade A public library having a huge collection of over 14,246 books covering diverse subjects. The library is affiliated to Kerala State Library Council. Edayar Grameena Vayanasaya was set up in the year 1924 in St. Mary`s Jacobite Church with the name Martha Mariyam Vayanasala. Back then it had a fair collection of books and was open to the public. In a few years the library acquired about half acres of land in Peedikappady with the support of the people of Edayar. Subsequently the new building was constructed for the library along with an independent office, reading and circulation rooms and memorial hall. It also has an open auditorium and a vast playground. The auditorium hosts a number of cultural events throughout the year. The library plays a crucial role in enlightening as well as enriching the cultural heritage of the state.

In addition to receiving revenues from the members, Edayar Grameena Vayanasaya also receives government grant from the Kerala State Government. The grant suffices for purchasing a fair amount of new books and for organizing varied library activities. Various government sources and local panchayat also provide grants to the library. Every year about 500 new books are added to the collection. Administration Committee of Edayar Grameena Vayanasaya comprises 10 members who serve for a period of 2 years and are elected by the members of the library. The procedures follow the basic Indian election method and the candidates are amongst the library members only.

Events of Edayar Grameena Vayanasala
The library also forms the venue for a number of social programs including Kung fu training centre and adult literacy centre. It also hosts other programs sponsored by government as well as local agencies. Thiruvonam is one of the major events celebrated in the library. On this day Onam is celebrated with great vigour along with all the people of Edayar and cultural programs are also organized to add to the gaiety of the occasion. Edayar Grameena Vayanasaya celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in the year 2001 and also inaugurated the new recreation building named Platinum Jubilee Mandiram.
