Libraries of East India`Eastern part of India comprises of the states of West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and the union territory of Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In ancient times, eastern India was the centre of renowned universities like Nalanda, Puphagiri and Vikramshila. In these universities, students could attain higher learning. Even today this region houses renowned Indian universities and institutions of national importance. Apart from these universities and institutions, there are several libraries in West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and Andaman and Nicobar Islands, which serve as significant sources of information and wisdom for the students. Eastern part of India has both private as well as public libraries. A private library belongs to an individual. A public library is accessible to all those people who pay subscription to it and are enrolled as members. There are also free public libraries.

Libraries of West Bengal
The state of West Bengal has several libraries. Libraries like National Library, Bagbazar Reading Library, Eloor Lending Libraries, Little Magazine Library, State Central Library, Directorate of Library Services and British Council library are located in Kolkata, the capital city of West Bengal. Some libraries like Howrah District Library, Friends Club Public Library and Bally Public Library are located in Howrah.

SNTI Library is housed in Jamshedpur, the headquarters of the East Singhbhum district.

Andaman and Nicobar Islands serves as a home to State Library and Central Library of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS). They are located in Port Blair, the capital of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
