The site where the masjid has been built was earlier occupied by a temple. The material of these temples was used for the construction of the mosque. Shahi Masjid comprises of a colonnaded prayer hall adorned with three domes. A single mirab is located on the western side of the courtyard that measures 29 x 14 metres. It also has a monumental gateway on the eastern side. The mirab has inscriptions engraved on it that date back to the 12th century. Another inscription has been engraved over the mihrab according to which the mosque had been restored by one of the officials at the time of the Mughal ruler Akbar. This article is a stub.
