Ballabhpur Wildlife Sanctuary, popular for Deer Park, was set up in the year 1977. This wooded area is nestled near Shantiniketan in Bolpur subdivision of Birbhum District in West Bengal. The place has an average elevation of 56 meters.

The temperature, during the summers, can shoot up well above 40 degree Celsius, and in winters it can drop to around 10 degree Celsius. The annual average rainfall is 1,212 millimeters, mostly in the monsoon months (June to October).
Flora and Fauna of Ballabhpur Wildlife Sanctuary
Sal and Piyal trees encompass the entire forest. One can see various species of Deers, Blackbuck and Peacocks. Other animals include jackals, foxes and a variety of water birds. Also a large lake is located beside the forest where there is a bird sanctuary. Various types of migratory birds and tortoises are seen there.
Visiting Information to Ballabhpur Wildlife Sanctuary
Regular trains are available from Howrah station to Bolpur Shantiniketan railway station; the distance is about 152 km. This place can also be reached by road. Buses are available from Shahid Minar (Esplanade) Kolkata, to Shantiniketan.
