IIFA Awards or International Indian Film Academy Awards is one of the most prestigious award ceremonies of Hindi film industry in which the technical and artistic talents of the Bollywood film professionals are commemorated by the International Indian Film Academy. The event greatly promotes the Indian cinema at the international level. The award ceremony was introduced in the year 2000 and since then it is held at various places of the globe every year. It is a three day celebration during which awards are presented under different cinematic categories to appreciate the contributions of film personalities.
15th IIFA Awards
15th IIFA Award ceremony was held in the year 2014, from 23rd to 26th April. In the event the best films of 2013 were honoured. Organized at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, in the United States, IIFA Awards 2014 was co-hosted by Farhan Akhtar and Shahid Kapoor. The year 2013 was studded with some of the great Bollywood films which marked the eminent presentation and directional skills of prominent Hindi film directors. The nominations under the category IIFA Awards for Best Director included Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Abhishek Kapoor for Kai Po Che!, Rakesh Roshan for Krrish 3, Rohit Shetty for Chennai Express and Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela. The award was won by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra for directing the movie Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is one of the most acclaimed Indian filmmaker and screenwriter who has been the winner of many prestigious film awards. Bhaag Milkha Bhaag was both produced and directed him and is based on the life of the national champion runner and Olympian Milkha Singh. The film received immense praises from critics as well as viewers.
