Periyar Reservoir, Tamil NaduThe Periyar Reservoir was constructed in 1895 on the Periyar River, thus submerging 26 sq km of evergreen forest. The reservoir has Kerala`s only tiger reserve close by. The Periyar and Mullayar river systems drain the catchment area of the reservoir. The altitudinal range of the reservoir is around 79-1,987 metres and the annual average rainfall experienced in this region is approximately 3,289 mm. Periyar Tiger Reserve is situated adjacent to the Periyar Reservoir.
