![]() Early Life of Surekha Sikri Surekha Sikri, born in 1945, is basically from Uttar Pradesh. She has spent her childhood in Almora and Nainital. Earlier she attended the Aligarh Muslim University then later she graduated from the National School of Drama in 1968. After the completion of her studies, she started to work with the NSD Repertory Company, where she worked for over a decade. Later she shifted to Mumbai. Her father was in Air Force and mother was a teacher. ![]() Surekha Sikri made her debut in a political drama named Kissa Kursi Ka in 1978. Later she performed in several Hindi and Malayalam films including some daily soaps. Sikri got immense popularity by playing the role of Kalyani Devi Dharamveer Singh aka Dadisa in the famous TV serial Balika Vadhu. The serial was telecasted from 2008-2016 in Colors TV channel. Some of her other serials are Banegi Apni Baat, Kkehna Hai Kuch Mujhko, Kabhie Kabhie, Maa Exchange etc. Along with TV serials, Surekha Sikri has also performed in several films among which Little Buddha, Mr. and Mrs. Iyer, Raincoat, Sarfarosh, Zubeidaa, Badhaai Ho are the most popular ones. In Badhaai Ho, released in 2018, she played the role of Ayushman Khurana’s grandmother. The role brought her praising from the audiences. Recognitions to Surekha Sikri Sikri has won National Film Awards for two times for the films Tamas (1988) and Mammo (1995). Later she was honoured with the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in Negative Role in the year 2008 and Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in 2011 for the popular daily soap Balika Vadhu. In addition, she won the Sangeet Natak Academy Award in 1989 for her contributions towards Hindi theatre. She has also been awarded with the Screen Award for Best Supporting Actress for Badhaai Ho in 2018.
