History of Kunal Pathri Temple
The temple is known to be one of the Shakti Peethas, it is believed that the skull of Devi Sati had fallen in this spot. According to the legends, during a yajna arranged by Goddess Satis father to find her a proper groom Sati immolates herself when her father refuses to give her hand to Lord Shiva. Seeing Satis burnt corpse, Lord Shiva lifted the body on his shoulders and performed the cosmic dance called Tandava. When Lord Vishnu saw this, he used the Sudarshan Chakra to destroy Satis body and a part of her skull is believed to have fallen here.
It is said that there is a stone in the temple that always remains wet. According to local legend, the moment the stone starts drying, it rains. The forest surrounding the temple occasionally allows glimpses of wildlife ranging from rabbits to agile leopards.
Kotwali Bazaar, Bhagsunath Temple and Marsur are the nearby attractions of the Kunal Pathri temple. During the months of March and April, there is also an annual fair that occurs in this place.
