Payoshni, Indian Ancient River

Payoshni is an ancient river, which rises from the Riksha Mountains.

Payoshni is mentioned in the Mahabharata and said that it lies in the territory of Vidarbha. Payoshni is mentioned as laying in the northern entrance of the great Dandaka Forest an ancient forest that is spread throughout south-central India. The Pandavas had visited this place as part of their pilgrimage. Payoshni passes through Vidarbha or Berar, and Yudhishtira having bathed in it comes to the Vaidurya Mountain and the Narbada rive.

The Vishnu Purana states that Vayu and Kurma bring the river from the Vindhya Range.
