William Huddleston

William Huddleston, officially known as Sir William Huddleston, served as the Acting Governor of Madras Presidency in the year 1881, in the erstwhile undivided India under the rule of the British Empire. He was a well known British colonial administrator and a renowned politician. William Huddleston, born in the year 1826, was appointed as the acting Governor of Madras Presidency on May 24, 1881. He succeeded William Patrick Adam, CIE, DL who retired as the Governor of Madras on 24 May 1881.

The Madras Presidency, also known as the Presidency of Fort St. George and Madras Province, was an administrative sub division of British dominated India. The territory included most of southern India, such as the modern states of Tamil Nadu, the Coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions of Andhra Pradesh, Lakshadweep Islands, the Malabar region of North Kerala, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangapur and Gajapati districts of southern Orissa and the Bellary, Ganjam, Dakshina Kannada, Rayagada and Udupi districts of Karnataka. William Huddleston served in office until November 5, 1881 and was succeeded by Sir Mountstuart Elphinstone Grant Duff GCSI, CIE, PC FRS as the Governor of Madras Presidency. William Huddleston died in the year 1894.
