Vena was a great king in Hinduism and was a king of the Solar Dynasty. In Hindu mythology, he was a great king but he became evil and cruel later. It is sighted that in his childhood days he even killed his playmates most playfully.
Myths of Vena
As per the myths, when the world became so depressing and dark, the earth-goddess Bhudevi decided that she would not supply crops to humans any longer. It is said that royalty and fame made him insolent. He even considered Brahmans as his enemy and made them and other sages pay tribute to him. He also compelled the Brahmans to carry his palanquins and prevented all from performing all religious performance in his state.
Witnessing all these, Bhudevi took the form of a cow and went into hiding. In the meantime, a group of sages killed Vena out of anger for his evil deeds. They then rubbed the thigh of his dead body and took out all the immorality from his body. Afterwards, they rubbed Vena`s arm, and king Prithu appeared as Lord Vishnu"s incarnation. As soon as he was born, Lord Vishnu"s "Saranga" bow fell from heaven into his hands. However, Bhudevi still refused to provide crops to people. As soon as Prithu threatened to kill her, she agreed but in return Prithu would be her eternal protector. This is why Bhudevi is also known as Prithvi.
