The Hindu temple of Goddess Vajreshwari is located in the town of the same name in the state of Maharashtra about 75 km away from the city of Mumbai. Nearby to the temple at a distance of about 5 km, there are about 21 hot springs which are known as the Vajreshwari Kund.
Legend of Vajreshwari Kund
According to legends, it is said that the hot water in the spring is the blood of demons and giants who were slain by the goddess Vajreshwari. Another legend states that the seventh canto of Navanath Kathasar states that Machindranath, the saint served the goddess Vajreshwari for a month by giving her a bath in the water of the hot springs.
The water in this hot water spring is rich in sulphur and has healing properties for which devotees are attracted here. The pilgrims take a holy bath in these springs, which are named after the Hindu Gods and Goddesses like Lord Surya, Chandra, Lord Agni, Lord Vayu, Lakshmana, and Lord Rama, who is the incarnation of Lord Vishnu and Goddess Sita, the incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.
