United Provinces Horse (Southern Regiment)

The United Provinces Light Horse (Southern Regiment) was a cavalry unit of the British Indian Army. It operated under the British Colonial Auxiliary Forces in India. The volunteer corps regiment was raised on 1st April 1904 as the United Provinces Light Horse regiment. It was formed by the amalgamation of various auxiliary units, namely Allahabad Light Horse (Allahabad Volunteer Rifle Corps), Cawnpore Light Horse (Cawnpore Volunteer Rifle Corps), Gorakhpur Light Horse, Ghazipur Light Horse Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Corps) and the Oudh Light Horse (Oudh Volunteer Rifle Corps) regiment.

The United Provinces Light Horse was re-designated as the 1st United Provinces Horse regiment on 1st April 1909. It was later renamed again on 1st April 1917 as the 7th (Southern Regiment) United Provinces Horse. The British Indian Army reformed the unit and on 1st October 1920, it was titled as the United Provinces Horse (Southern Regiment).

The uniform of the troops of the military unit included khaki formal dress and the military badge had the inscription "Relief of Lucknow, 1857".
