Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Corps

Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Corps was a former infantry unit under the British Colonial Auxiliary Forces of the British Indian Army. It was formed on 14th June 1879.

The Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Corps was a former infantry unit under the British Colonial Auxiliary Forces of the British Indian Army. The volunteer corps regiment was based in Ghazipur district in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. The auxiliary military battalion was formed on 14th June 1879 by the British Empire in India.

The regiment was renamed as the Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Battalion on 11th November 1881. However in the year 1885, it was re-designated to its original title Ghazipur Volunteer Rifle Corps. The volunteer corps regiment was later reformed on 7th January 1887 and was re-designated as the Ghazipur Light Horse. It was eventually merged with other volunteer corps on 17th June 1892 to form the Bengal and North Western Railway Volunteer Corps.

Later the Ghazipur Light Horse unit was merged with the Oudh Volunteer Rifle Corps on 1st April 1904 to raise the United Provinces Light Horse regiment.
