Tiruppazhuvur Temple

Tiruppazhuvur temple is located at Ariyalur. The deity of the temple is Shiva: Aalanturaiyeesar, Vadamoolesar. As the stala vriksham is Aalamaram the presiding deity is Aalanturaiyeesar or its equivalent Vatamoolesar or Vatatheerthanathar in Sanskrit. It is the 55th in the series of Tevara Stalams located north of the river Kaveri.

Legends: Parvati worshipped Shiva here prior to marrying him. Parasuramar also prayed here and made arrangements for the upkeep of religious services here. There is an image of Parasuramar in this shrine.

Temple: The temple faces the east and has images of Lingodbhavar, Dakshinamurthy, Bhramma, Durga and Vinayaka. The sculpture of Anantasayana is seen over the gateway of the Ardhamandapam, and is said to represent Parasuramar engaged in penance after having killed his mother, on his father`s bidding. There are sculptured images of Yoga Narasimhar, Parthasarathi, Anantasayanam, in the toranams. The Mukhamandapam has images of Kalasamharamurthy, Ardhanareeswarar, Kalyanasundarar, Kankalamurthy and Bhairavar. The bronze images of Rishabhavahanar, Tripurantakar, dancing Balasubramanyar and Sundaramoorthy Nayanar are also found here.

Festivals: Margazhi Tiruvadirai, Aippasi Pournami and Kartikai Deepam are the fesitvals celebrated here.
