Subramanya Swami Temple is a cave temple cut into the rock bed. This temple has been mentioned in Sangam Literature, which dates back to 200 BC. Tamil Brahmi inscriptions here date it back to this period. The current structure is from the period of Pandya kings of the 8th century AD. The temple has a 150 feet high Rajagopuram. The entire temple has five mandapams in step formation going upwards. The pillars are beautifully sculptured. The Naik Kings of Madurai, made endowments to this temple. Two tanks Lakshmi Teertham and Saravanapoigai are attached to this temple.
Other shrines in this temple are dedicated to Shiva, Ganesha, Durga and Vishnu. Festivals: The chief festivals here are the Coronation festival in March, Vaikasi Visakham (May - June), Skandasashti (October - November) and Kartikai Deepam (Nov - Dec).
