Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple is a divine destination situated in Secunderabad area of the south Indian state Telangana. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Mahakaali. It is a 191 years old temple and is visited by a number of devotees throughout the year. The festival of Bonalu is celebrated with great vigour in the temple. During Ashada Jathara, which usually falls on Sunday and Monday, numerous devotees gather at the temple to offer prayers. The temple is also associated with a legend. It is a highly revered shrine of Hindus and also serves as a significant tourist and pilgrimage destination for the people hailing from distant places.
Legend of Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple
Legend says that the construction of the temple dates back to the year 1813 when a Military Battalion was transferred to Ujjaini. During this time a Cholera outbreak occurred for which thousands of people lost their lives. A person from the Military Battalion known as Suriti Appaiah then went to Mahakali Devasthanam at Ujjaini along with his associates to offer prayers. They prayed to the Goddess for saving the lives of people from the epidemic and in return promised to install the idol of Mahakaali at Secunderabad. Sri Suriti Appaiah, after returning from Ujjaini in July 1815, took the initiative along with his associates and installed the idol of Goddess Mahakaali, structured in wood, at Secunderabad. However during the building of sanctum sanctorum, people found a stone idol of Manikyalamma which was then also installed beside Sri Mahakaali Ammavaru.

Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple was later developed by Sri Suriti Appaiah and some philanthropic people also helped him in this venture. However eventually, the temple construction was taken over by the endowments department. In the temple, Goddess Ujjain Mahakaali can be witnessed in a Padmasana posture. The Goddess has four hands along with a spear and sword. The idol of the goddess is adorned with silver. Many devotees make various sacrifices after their wishes are fulfilled.
Visiting Information
Sri Ujjaini Mahakali Temple stands at a distance of 12 kilometres from Secunderabad Railways station. Visitors can avail private transport as well as regular bus services which connect the temple with prime locations of the city.
