Skandagiri

Skandagiri is a ruined fort of Tipu Sultan in Karnataka. It is also known as ‘Kalavara Durga’.

Skandagiri, KarnatakaSkandagiri, also historically known as "Kalwarbetta" or "Kalavara Durga", is a mountain fortress located close to Nandi Hills in the Chikballapur district of Karnataka. It has an ancient dilapidated fort that belonged to a local king and was later concurred and used by Tipu Sultan. After Tipu Sultan"s downfall, the fort was ignored and laid in ruins. Today, one can only see parts of the fort wall in some places. The peak is at an altitude of about 1450 meters. It is accessed from the nearby village named Kalavara. The fortress is around 62 km from Bengaluru and 3 km from Chikballapur.

Trekking in Skandagiri
Skandagiri Hills is an amazing beauty of nature. This is among the best places for trekking near Bengaluru especially famous for night treks, camping and bird watching. The trek is 4kms long and very steep through a maze of dense shrub. The trek is of moderate level. On reaching the top, the view is amazing.
