Sivanand Yoga Vedant Natraja Centre was founded by Swami Vishnu-Devananda as a non-profit organisation in 1992 as part of the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres. Upon the instruction of his Guru, Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh, Uttaranchal, India, Swami Vishnu -Devananda headed to the west and began travelling and teaching throughout the United States in 1957. He established the first Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in Montreal, Canada in 1959.

There are now close to 80 Sivananda locations around the world. The organisation has trained more than 10,000 yoga teachers. The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres are recognised worldwide for teaching yoga realistically, preserving its purity and tradition, which dates back to several thousand years. Its purpose is to extend the ancient science of yoga as a means of achieving corporeal, mental and religious well being. The International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres is a non-profit organization. Sivananda Yoga class is a traditional, slow paced, meditative class that helps give confidence, proper breathing, flexibility, strength and vitality in the body while calming the mind.
