Singell is an offbeat tourist destination in Kurseong. This hill station has several attractions such as lush tea gardens, colonial churches and pine forests.

It is situated at an elevation of five thousand feet above sea level away from the hustle bustle of city life. This lesser known site is enveloped by alpine villages and tea-estates from all sides. It is a paradise for the serenity lover and nature admirer. Singell has a historical significance. During the British era, Singell and Kurseong were the towns for resting and convalescence, especially for wounded soldiers. That is why one will find various British built bungalows and villas here.

Highlights of Singell
There are several places of interest in this tiny hill station. It is home to lush tea gardens, colonial churches and pine forests. The tea gardens of this place have both historical and commercial significance. Some of the notable tea gardens that offer a glimpse of the manufacturing process of the finest Darjeeling tea in the world include Castleton, Makaibare, Singell, Goomtee and Ambotia. There is Eagle"s Craig View Point situated at the top of the hill, on the edge of the cliff. From this point, one can enjoy beautiful views of the hills, hamlets, forests and villages surrounding the town. This point houses a stone altar adorned with a kukri, called the "Shahid Smarak". It was built by the Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council in the honour of the martyrs of the 1988 agitation. Another site from where the breath-taking view of the mountains can be enjoyed is Giddapahar. It is home to the Giddapahar Seti Mata Temple which is dedicated to Goddess Durga.

Those who are fond of animals can visit Deer Park and Forest Museum. Deer Park is located on Dow Hill but entry into the forested area is strictly prohibited. The Forest Museum is also situated on Dow Hill. It is an ideal place to get a glimpse of Singell"s natural history and the animals that may now have become extinct from the mountains.

Apart from all the above mentioned destinations, one can also visit Ambootia Temple, Dowhill Girl"s School and Victoria Boy"s School. These three spots are known for their remarkable architecture.

Singell, Kurseong, West Bengal Nearby Attractions of Singell
The main nearby attractions of Singell include Bagora, Darjeeling and Mirik. Bagora is said to be the highest point in Kurseong. It is nicknamed "Zero Point". Noted for its tea industry, Darjeeling is a world-famous hillside town. It provides stunning views of the Himalayas. Mirik is famous for its beautiful Sumendu Lake which is flanked on one side by pine trees, and on the other side by gardens.

Recreational Activities at Singell
It offers ample opportunities to indulge in recreational activities such as trekking, fishing, toy train ride etc. Trekking trips are regularly organized up to Chimney Busty. While proceeding towards the destination, one will come across Balasun and Mahanadi Rivers. The Balasun River offers excellent fishing opportunities to its arrivals. The Toy Train starts at Kurseong and goes up to stations as far as Sonada, Tung etc. The train ride offers excellent panoramic views of the hills and the rivers.

Singell may be visited any time of the year. In terms of accommodation facilities, it has few hotels and home stay options equipped with all the modern facilities. The nearest airport is at Bagdogra and railway station is at New Jalpaiguri. Car services can be availed from both the airport and railhead to reach Singell.
