History of Shri Pali Teerth
As per history Shri Pali Teerth dates back to the ancient times. According to references the teerth was formerly known as Pallika and Palli. It is believed that earlier the teerth was a very rich and prosperous place that was resided by many people. Many rich Shravakas also lived here and performed many religious works. Since its construction the temple has been repaired and renovated several times. It was renovated in the year 1144 and again in the year 1686 of the Vikram Samvat Era. As per an inscription found in the temple the idol of Lord Parshvanatha was installed in the place of the idol of Lord Mahavira. The teerth is associated with many legends and miracles. According to a legend during the time of renovation of the temple ghee was ordered by the revered Acharya Yashobhandrasurisvarji. The merchants later came to receive the price of the ghee. However, when they came to know that it was used for the religious purpose they did not accept the money that was almost nine lakhs of rupees. The temple is thus also known as `Navalakha Temple`.
The idol of Lord Shantinath is believed to possess miraculous powers and is visited by thousands of Jains and non Jains from far off places. They come here to offer their prayers to the Lord and receive his blessings. It is believed that if prayed with all devotion the Lord fulfils the wishes of the pilgrims.
Temple of Shri Pali Teerth
The temple of Shri Pali Teerth houses the idol of Bhagwan Navlakha Parshvanatha. The temple has been beautifully decorated with intricate designs. These stand as unique example of ancient art and boast about the skills of the craftsmen. The walls and pillars of the temple are adorned with specimens of ancient art and paintings. The idol of the Lord is white n colour and is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved from a single stone and looks very appealing. The smiling face of the Lord looks very calm and serene. Apart from this there are ten temples and four Dadawadis located in the town. These have also been decorated stylishly and are worth seeing. Besides these there is another temple of Lord Parshvanatha that is known as the `Bhabarimandir`. It is situated on the Punagiri hill outside the town.
The Temple of Sri Pali Teerth organizes many annual gatherings and functions that are celebrated with much enthusiasm. A flag is hoisted on the third day of the bright half of the month of Vaishakh. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims that are well equipped with all modern facilities. There are also facilities for Upashrays, Ayambilshala and Jnanabhandar. The teerth being situated amidst beautiful natural surroundings attracts many pilgrims. The surrounding greenery and the beauty of the teerth mesmerize and fascinate the pilgrims.
