Shri Agam Mandir located in Gujarat is a Jain pilgrimage centre. The teerth kshetra is located in the Mehsana District. The temple is dedicated to Lord Mahavira, the twenty-third Jain Tirthankara.
History of Shri Agam Mandir
Shri Agam Mandir, as per historical records dates back to the ancient times. Jain Aagam have emerged from the speech of Tirthankara Bhagwan. 45 Agams have been composed by interpreting the speeches given by Lord Mahavira. The Jain scriptures have been interpreted. Under the inspiration of His Holiness Abhyudavsagarji and Navratnasagarji the Agams were spread far and wide. The Agam mandir was built in the Shankheshvar Teerth in memory of Agamoddharak, His Holiness Acharyadev Sagaranandsurisvarji Maharaj Saheb and his succeeding main disciple, his Holiness Acharyadev Shri Chandrasagarji Maharaj Saheb. The idol of Lord Mahavira and many other new idols were installed on the sixth day of the bright half of the month of Magha in the year 2035 of the Vikram Samvat Era.
Here the idol of Lord Parshvanatha is believed to possess miraculous powers and are visited by thousands of Jains and non Jains from far off places. They come here to offer their prayers to the Lord and receive his blessings. It is believed that if prayed with all devotion the Lord fulfils the wishes of the pilgrims
Temple of Shri Agam Mandir
The temple of Shri Agam Mandir housing the idol of Lord Mahavira has been beautifully decorated with with intricate designs. The creative temple work boast about the artistic skills of the craftsmen. The walls and pillars of the temple are adorned with specimens of ancient art and paintings. The walls of the passage have been decorated with 45 Agams that have been beautifully inscribed in the Prakrit language on copper plates. The image of the Siddhachakraji in the shape of a lotus is visible on the backside of the temple. Sheth Shri Popatbhai Lallubhai of Bharuch had donated the large piece of land of 15000 sq. yards. The idol of the Lord is white in colour and is seated in a padmasana posture. The idol has been beautifully carved from a single stone and looks very beautiful. The smiling face of the Lord looks very calm and serene. Other than this there are other 42 attractive idols installed in the temple. There are also the idols of Guru Gautam Swami and Bhagwan Sudharma Swami.
The Temple of Shri Agam Mandir organizes many annual gatherings and functions that are celebrated with much enthusiasm. There are provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims that are well equipped with all modern facilities. There are also facilities for Upashrays, Ayambilshala and Jnanabhandar. The temple being located on the village is surrounded by beautiful natural surroundings. The surrounding greenery and the beauty of the teerth mesmerize and fascinate the pilgrims.
