Shiyani Teerth located in the village of Shiyani in Gujarat is a Jain pilgrimage centre. It is dedicated to Lord Shantinath. The teerth Kshetra is situated at a distance of just 13 kms from Limbdi on the road leading to Palitana via Shankeshvara and Lakhtar.
History of Shiyani Teerth
According to history Shiyani Teerth dates back to the ancient period. It is said to have been constructed during the time of Emperor Samprati. The beautiful idol of Lord Shantinath was also installed by him. The place is associated with many miracles and legends of the Lord. The Jina temple faces the eastern quarter. There are entrance-doors on the eastern and northern sides of the temple. The temple is visited by many pilgrims from different places who come here to offer their prayers to the Lord.
Temple of Shiyani Teerth
The temple of Shiyani Teerth houses the idol of Lord Shantinath. The temple has been carved beautifully with intricate architectural designs. It is constructed in the mid part of the complex with a splendid assembly-hall as well as a decoration hall. On the door of the southern quarter the image of Goddess Saraswati has been carved. The temple has three storeys. The underground cellar also houses another temple known as Underground cellar temple. The idol of Lord Shantinath is installed in it. It is 13 inches in height and looks attractive. Apart from this there are other idols of Lord Munisuvrata, Lord Parshvanatha, Bhagwan Rishabh Dev and others. A memorial stone Palio can be seen on the ladder of this ancient cellar. A 13 inch idol of Lord Parshvanatha has been installed on the upper portion of the majestic temple. A four-faced pillar built here enhances the beauty the temple.
The temple organises many annual gatherings. A fair is held here every year on the fifth day of the bright half of the month of Magsar. Shiyani Teerth has proper provisions for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims. These are equipped with all modern facilities. Shiyani Teerth is well connected to road, rail and air. Buses and taxis are easily available for the Kshetra. The nearest railway station of Limbdi is at a distance of 13 kilometres.
