Shillong Volunteer Rifles

Shillong Volunteer Rifles unit formed by the British Empire in India on 11th August 1882. It was an infantry regiment under the British Colonial Auxiliary Forces of the British Indian Army.

The Shillong Volunteer Rifles unit was a former infantry unit under the British Colonial Auxiliary Forces of the British Indian Army. It served under the Bengal Army which was the armed force of Bengal Presidency. The volunteer corps regiment was based in Shillong in the Indian state of Meghalaya. The auxiliary military battalion was formed by the British Empire in India on 11th August 1882.

The headquarters of the Shillong Volunteer Rifles was also established in Shillong. In 1901, the troops regiment wore Khaki drill uniforms. Later on 1st May 1906, the armed force was amalgamated with the Assam Valley Light Horse. The Light Horse unit was a part of the Cavalry Reserve of the British Indian Army.
