Sanisvara Shiva Temple

Sanisvara Shiva Temple, situated in Khordha district in Orissa, is dedicated to Lord Shiva installed in the garbhagriha measuring 1.00 square meters.

Sanisvara Shiva Temple, OrissaSanisvara Shiva Temple, located in the Gosagaresvara Precinct in the southern side of Paradaresvara Shiva Temple in the Indian state of Orissa. The temple facing the eastern side enshrines its presiding deity, Lord Shiva in the form of a Shivalingam in a circular yonipitha in its sanctum sanctorum or garbhagriha measuring 1.00 square meters.

History of Sanisvara Shiva Temple
As per the legendary fable during the rule of the Ganga Dynasty around 14th-15th Century AD, Lord Siva had once annihilated a calf unintentionally. Hence to clean his sin of killing a calf, he took bath in the Gosagaresvara pond and worshipped lord Gosagaresvara. This tradition is followed till date by the pilgrims visiting the temple from distant places. Devotees still perform the practice of taking ritual bath in the temple tank. Later they worship Gosagaresvara to get rid of their sins. Earlier the temple was used as a worshiping shrine but presently pilgrims regard it as a public living temple and classify it as Pidha Deul typology.

Festival of Sanisvara Shiva Temple
Sanisvara Shiva Temple celebrates several festivals to uphold the culture and traditions of the temple. Festivals such as Shivaratri are celebrated on a grand scale with much enthusiasm. Besides, many social events such as marriage ceremony and thread ceremony is also organised by the temple authorities.

Sanisvara Shiva Temple is located in Kapilaprasad in Khordha district in the temple town of Bhubaneswar. It is surrounded on the northern side by Paradaresvara Shiva Temple, on the western side by Gosagaresvara tank, on the eastern side by Minor Temple V with the entrance gate on the southern side.
