Sambhavnath and Parshvanatha Digambara Jain Mandir located in Champanery in Rajasthan is a Jain pilgrimage centre. It is an Atishaya Kshetra i.e. Place of Miracles). The temple is situated in Champanery town of Ajmer District on Kekari-Vijaynagar Road. The temple id dedicated to Lord Sambhavnath and Lord Parshvanatha.
History of Sambhavnath and Parshvanatha Digambara Jain Mandir
According to history Sambhavnath and Parshvanatha Digambara Jain Mandir is almost 500 years old. The idol of Lord Sambhavnath and Lord Parshvanatha also dates back to the ancient times, the later being almost 70 years old. The temple is associated with many miracles and legends. The idol of Parshvanatha is almost 6" X 41/2" in height hence during its installation it was very difficult for it to pass through the gate. However, a miraculous incident took place. When the idol was brought near the gate it became short according to the gate. After the installation of the idol many other miracles took place. It is said that the people could hear the sounds of musical instruments and could feel a fragrance in the wind. The place has been visited by Digambara Jain Acharya Poojya Vidya Sagarji, 25 years ago. Devotees from far off places visit the temple to offer their prayers and fulfill their wishes.
Temple of Sambhavnath and Parshvanatha Digambara Jain Mandir
The temple of Sambhavnath and Parshvanatha Digambara Jain Mandir is very ancient and houses the idol pf Lord Parshvanatha and Lord Sambhavnath. The temple is magnificently made with intricate designs. The sky-high spires also adorn the temple and are embellished with golden Kalash that can be seen even from a far distance. The idol of Lord Parshvanatha has been beautifully carved. The idol is made of black colored stone and is seated in a padmasana posture. It is almost 6" X 4 1/2" in height. The idol of Lord Sambhavnath, the third Jain Tirthankara is also very attractive. It is a seated in a padmasana posture. The idols have been installed in the altars that look splendid. It has been brilliantly decorated with gold on the glass. The temple being decorated with artistic work on glass is known as "Kanch Ka Mandir" (Temple of Glass). Apart from these there are 35 idols installed in 6 altars that are also worth visiting.
Sambhavnath and Parshvanatha Digambara Jain Mandir organises annual gathering on 15th of February. There is provision for dharamshalas or rest houses for the pilgrims. These are equipped with all modern facilities. The temple is well connected to road, rail and air. Busses and Taxies are easily available from Ajmer, Vijaynagar and Kekari. The nearest railway station is the Vijaynagar Station located at a 25 km from Champanery. The nearest airport is situated at Jaipur at a distance of 180 km and at Udaipur at 200 km from here.
