The princely state of Dholpur was a territory of eastern Rajputana that was founded by the Bamraulia clan Jat Rana rulers in 1806 AD. Dholpur was located in the current Indian state of Rajasthan. Pohap Singh belonged to the Bamraulia gotra or Dynasty of Jats. Pohap Singh was the son of Rana Kirat Singh and eventually succeeded his father after his death on 12 November 1835. Rana Pohap Singh ruled over the princely state of Dholpur as the Maharaja Rana in the year 1836. But he reigned over the kingdom for around nine months only as he died in the same year.
Rana Bhagwant Singh, his younger brother, succeeded and ascended to the royal throne after the death of Rana Pohap Singh in the year 1836.
