Rajasree Mukherjee

Rajasree Mukherjee is an accomplished singer who has contributed towards the cultural development in the East Africa.

Rajasree Mukherjee, Rabindra Sangeet SingerRajasree Mukherjee was born on 7th July in the year 1959 in Tatanagar, India. Being an Honours graduate in Zoology from Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata, today she has been reckoned as a singer as well as Music Therapist. She holds the honor of being the proud student of legendary Padmasree Suchitra Mitra. Rajasree Mukherjee also holds first class first degree in her Diploma examination from Rabi Tirtha School of Music, Kolkata. She also obtained double graduation and also teaches both the discipline Indian Classical and Traditional music.

Early life of Rajasree Mukherjee
Rajasree Mukherjee fetched the second rank in Rabindra Sangeet in her Sangeet Prabhakar graduation examination. The examination was carried on by Prayag Sangeet Samiti, Allahabad in all India bases. As an accompaniment of Suchitra mitra, she has performed in the United States and Canada in the year 1975 during a tour. Later on she did her second graduation in Indian music from Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh. From Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh she obtained the Sangeet Visharad degree.

Rajasree Mukherjee has been considered as the singer who has been bestowed with the divine blessings of god in the form of a melodious voice. Numerous concerts in Kenya, Tanzania, India, Canada and the United States of her received a rave cheers throughout and she has been established as very popular performer. Rajasree Mukherjee has also been counted one amongst the most reputed trainers in Indian music in East Africa. For over 120-film and non-film songs she has written the lyrics. And her written songs have been featured by leading playback singers like Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Anuradha Paudwal, Abhijeet, Vinod Rathod, Mohamed Aziz and Shailendra Singh among others.

Rajasree Mukherjee as a well experienced Music therapist effectively used Indian Classical music in meditation techniques. On music, she has carried on several workshops on music over Television and Radio. In honour of the President of India, Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, she has compiled a special number. During the President`s visit to Tanzania in September 2004, this number she sang to a full house at the Aga Khan Auditorium in Daressalaam. In the year 1990, Rajasree Mukherjee moved to Nairobi, Kenya and Venice then she has been living there for the past seventeen years. In Nairobi, Kenya, she has established the Ma Sharda School of Music. At the school of music, she used to train many aspiring young singers. And with an endless effort she has produced several singers of international repute.

Works of Charity by Rajasree Mukherjee
The school of music was founded with the objectives of numerous humanitarian and charitable projects in Africa & India. Some projects in Africa are, "Education For Poor Childen", Orphanage and Workshops for Sustainable Development, Caring for the Terminally Ill, Sustainable Development Projects for Women, Children`s Home in Tanzania, Library for Theosophical Society of East Africa. In India, Calcutta Hawkers Medical Facilities, Children`s Talent Search Centre, Ma Sharda has been involved in raising funds for Cancer research for Tata Cancer Research Centre, Bombay. Ma Sharda School of Music today has been regarded as the most reputed Institution in East Africa that offers organized courses in traditional Indian Classical music, Folk music and Rabindra Sangeet.

Recognition of Rajasree Mukherjee
In recent days, Rajasree Mukherjee has been giving lessons to over 500 students that now live in Australia, India, Tanzania, Kenya, United Kingdom and the United States. She has been conferred the Government of India Grant for promotion of Indian culture abroad in three times. In recognition of her outstanding contribution to the field of music, the High Commission of India conferred her award of recognition in the year 2002. The Vice President of Kenya Professor George Saitoti presented the award to Rajasree Mukherjee.
