Princely State of Siba

The Princely State of Siba was one of the prominent princely states of India that were administered by native rulers or Indian princes under the indirect control of the British Government of India. The kingdom was established in 1450 by Raja Sibarna Chand, who was one of the younger brothers of the Katoch Raja of Goler. The ruling family of the state was the Kshatriya Katoch of Sibaia dynasty of Punjab Hills. The erstwhile princely state under the indirect rule of the British was situated in the Punjab Hills, which is presently in the state of Himachal Pradesh state, located on the border of Punjab and Himachal. The capital of the state was at Koi and comprised of an area of 85 km in length and 100 km in width. The division of Datarpur was segregated from the princely state 1550 AD; the Siba Jagir was granted to Mian Devi Singh by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the year 1830. Tant Palan was another division of Siba state. The princely state of Siba of Punjab Hills aas an autonomous territory until the year 1956 after which it was included as a part of the Republic of India.

After the rule of Sibarna Chand, one of the most renowned native rulers of the princely state, there were 25 Rajas of Siba until the disestablishment of the state by Ranjit Singh. Even during the rule of the Mughal dynasty, the territory maintained its sovereignty. In the year 1830, the princely state was separated from Goler by Ranjit Singh; and he reassigned the state to Raja Govind Singh, who was the 25th of his line.
