Princely State of Lunavada

Princely State of Lunavada was appointed as a princely state which was under the Gujarat division of Bombay Presidency. The capital of the princely state was Lunavada town.

The Princely State of Lunavada was one of the renowned states during the rule of the British Empire in India which was managed by native rulers or Indian princes under the indirect control of the British Government of India. The native ruler of the state had autonomous power to administer the internal issues of the state. But they maintained pleasant association with the British as they received protection and security in return. During the rule of the British administration in the country, Lunavada was appointed as a princely state which was under the Gujarat division of Bombay Presidency. The ruler of the territory was Wakhat Singhhji, who was a Solanki Rajput Maharana from an esteemed lineage.

The capital of the princely state was Lunavada town, which was established around 1434 CE. As the region was severely affected by famine, the population of Lunavada state witnessed a decrease of almost 28 per cent according to the census records of India in the year 1901. At present, Lunavada is a small town and a taluka in the district of Panchmahal in the northern area of Gujarat state.
