Pavagada Fort is located in Pavagada of Tumkur District of Karnataka on a hill. It was built by the Vijayanagar chieftain in 1405. The battle between Tipu Sultan and British was fought here. Apart from the fort, Kote Anjaneya Temple and the temple of Sri Shani Mahatma are also popular of Pavagada, which are located near to the Pavagada Fort.
Structure of Pavagada Fort
The fort is a seven storied structure with several enclosures and bunkers. On the top of the fort, there is a massive well, which seems to be very deep. There are numerous watch towers in the fort campus as well along with an underground entrance, which runs into the main city. The towers are surrounded by stonewalls.
Visiting Information to Pavagada Fort
Pavagada is a small town located at a distance of 150 km from Bengaluru. Penukonda Junction Railway Station and Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru are the nearest to visit the fort. Karnataka State Highway 3 connects Pavagada to the entire state.
