No. 3 (Madras) Field Battery “The Duke’s Own”

The No. 3 (Madras) Field Battery "The Duke`s Own" was an artillery battery unit of the Volunteer Corps in British India. The unit of the British Indian Auxiliary Forces unit was raised on 1st January 1879 under the supervision of the British Empire in India. It was developed from the troops of the Madras Volunteer Guards. The former military regiment was administered by the Madras Army of Madras Presidency. It was also included as a part of the Madras Command.

On 1st April 1917, the No. 3 (Madras) Field Battery was renamed as the 2nd (Madras) Group Garrison Artillery. After the visit of His Royal Highness The Duke of Connaught to British India in October 1920, the regiment was designated as II. (Madras) Field Brigade "The Duke`s Own".

In the year 1933, the army unit was re-structured and re-grouped and was named as the No. 3 (Madras) Field Battery "The Duke`s Own" regiment.
