Media, nowadays, is a part and parcel of everyday life. Media in Rajasthan, too, can be divided into three parts-Print Media, Radio Stations and Television Networks. Initially the All India Radio and Doordarshan were the only news medium in Rajasthan. However with the introduction of satellite several channels have been added to the idiot box. Radio is another popular electronic medium here.
As far as the print media is concerned primarily there are two leading newspapers in Rajasthan-Rajasthan Patrika and Dainik Bhaskar. Other newspapers include Pratahkal and Lokwarta Samachar. Amongst these Dainik Bhaskar is a leading newspaper and it is published from Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, Shekhawati, Kota and Bikaner. Rajasthan Patrika is probably the oldest and the most popular Hindi newspaper here. Nowadays it is also available online. Other than these leading English newspapers are also available if not widely read. Magazines, such as, India Today, Week, Femina and others are available.
Television is probably the most favoured division of electronic media in Rajasthan and elsewhere. Both Hindi and English channels are viewed on a large scale by the people of Rajasthan. The private regional channel is ETV Rajasthan. Besides this while surfing one can come across Sony TV, Zee, Set Max, Star TV, Zee Cinema, Star Sports, Star Movies, Sahara One, National Geography, ESPN, Discovery, NEO Sports, Animal Planet, etc are some of the many popular television channels.
The FM radio stations have increased the popularity of radios. A host of FM channels have come up to entertain the listeners. Besides these there are stations of All India Radio in Chittorgardh, Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Nagaur, Alwar, Barmer, Ajmer and others. There are FM radio stations, such as, Radio Mirchi, 95 FM Tadka, Gyan Vani, FM Radio 7 and others.
Internet has evolved as the latest division of media in Rajasthan.
