Mayodaya was the name of city Kannauj.

As per mythology, Mayodaya was the ancient name of city Kannauj.

Kannauj is a city of historical significance in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Kannauj, as per mythology was the capital of the great Hindu kingdom as it was a centre during the Gupta Empire. In the Mahabharata, the city Kannauj is referred frequently. In the year 405 A.D. Fa-hien, a great Chinese pilgrim visited the city. Hiuen Tsang visited the city in 636 A.D. Kannauj was in the peak of glory under Harshavardhana`s rule in the 7th century and was famous for its grandeur and prosperity. Kannauj was prominent for the hundreds of Hindu temples and Buddhist monasteries.
